FedEx makes it easy to create shipping labels within FedEx Ship Manager. However, you should be cautioned about similar language and additional costs that can occur when completing Step 3 and adding the "Declared Value" and the required "Total Customs Value".
Naturally, this would only apply for commodities that have a value over $100.00 as FedEx includes insurance for lost or damaged packages up to this amount.
It can be confusing for folks because the terminology is similar for the carriers declared value and when required to add the value for customs duty total value. The forms being completed for international shipments are different, one for the shipment/freight charges label and another for declaring the duty value that is used by customs for duty and tax purposes.

This link will provide an overview of where the “Declared Value” and “Total Customs Value” goes if you are using FedEx Ship Manager to create new shipment labels. If you are using a different TMS system to print labels, please let us know and we can offer further tutorial assistance as best possible.
If you scroll down the page on this link there is a great video tutorial on how to create a FedEx International Shipping Label and Documents. When creating the label, you will see in the video at 1:25 how to fill out the label. Step 3 is where FDX Declared Value is added at 1:41 and where Total Customs Value is entered at 1:54.
FedEx Ship Manager has the optional field for Declared Value to recover cost if lost or damaged and the required field marked by asterisk for *Customs Total Value in Step 3. You can see how it could be confusing for those not familiar with creating international shipment labels.
Make sure if you do not want to add additional charges for FedEx Insurance if the package is lost or damaged that you are not including the cost of the commodity in the Declared Value field. The value of the commodity, for customs purposes, should only be entered in the required field *Total Customs Value so that duties and taxes can be calculated accordingly.
